What that means in practice

• Buttons labeled "Try … free" and most outbound tool links are affiliate links (marked rel="sponsored" for search engines).
• Commissions never decide a verdict. Picks are made first, on the evidence; monetization is attached after — the process is documented in our editorial standards.
• We routinely name free alternatives to our paid picks, including when that costs us commission.
• Sponsored placements, if any, are labeled as such and are separate from ranked verdicts.
